Typically speaking, the drum machine can be relied on. It’s programming ticks with the consistency of a clock. It’s staccato boom-bap grasping whatever levels of airy experimentation you decide to blow over it, or vice versa. For Dubuque’s ARU, the drum machine spins, crests, and transforms like a cloud of smoke hanging knee-deep. Synth stabs and boomerangs of distortion flash through the low visibility like a strobe lighthouse providing guidance for those lost in the thick of it.
